MVSD Filtration project gets lots of bids

Bids for the work came in from 16 companies.

MINERAL RIDGE -- Officials from the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District and CT Consultants Inc. of Willoughby will crunch the numbers to see who has the lowest and best bids for all or a portion of the work on the district's filtration system.
MVSD Chief Engineer Tom Holloway opened bids from 16 companies Thursday. "The bids will be reviewed by CT Consultants, and they will compile the information and make a recommendation to the district on how to proceed," Holloway said.
Companies could bid on any of five separate contracts, or combinations of the work, Holloway said. The contracts cover work on everything from repairing the building that houses the filters, to upgrading the heating and air conditioning systems to upgrading, repairing and replacing the filters and their electrical controls.
MVSD and CT Consultants officials estimated the work to total roughly $6.8 million, which is on top of the $400,000 already spent on the project's design work.
Holloway said all of the bids will be reviewed for low amounts, but officials also plan to look at the companies' work history, especially if they have done work for MVSD or other water treatment plants in the past.
