MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township Police Chief Joseph Consiglio said a speed trailer will be placed on West Liberty Street Extension for four days next week.
The speed trailer, Consiglio told township trustees, will be put in place Monday and is designed to flash the speed of the vehicle going past it.
Consiglio had told West Liberty Street Extension resident Darlene Keith, who had complained to trustees about speeders on the street, that he would try to borrow the equipment from Niles to assist in measuring traffic and its speed on the street.
Since state Route 46 has been under construction in a widening project, officials say the number of vehicles getting off Interstate 80 and taking West Liberty Street has increased.
Police have already beefed up patrols on the street to reduce speeding over the past several years.
Consiglio noted the township will have use of the speed trailer through the & quot;generosity & quot; of the Niles department.
Lighting district
In other business at their meeting Wednesday, trustees approved modifying and including in the lighting district assessment all platted lots and condominiums which front on and benefit from the Country Meadows Street Lighting District. Treasurer David Rouhan explained that some residents feel that it is unfair that there were some condominiums on the front of the street that weren't paying for the lighting district.
Trustees also moved to affirm a petition request to vacate a 14-foot section at the end of St. Mary's Drive, part of the Sable Creek Development off Niles-Carver Road. Trustees voted to forward a letter to the Trumbull County commissioners for their review and decision.
Trustee chairman James Stoddard said that the developer who built the road stopped 14-feet short after the county had approved the street constructed to that point.
He added the township can't pave it, because it is not the township's job, which is why the issue is being sent to the county commissioners for their legal research and to be resolved.
In other business, trustees set Halloween trick-or-treat hours in the township for 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 30.
