FBI asks for tips about robbery
The robber passed a note to the teller demanding cash.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The FBI asks that anyone with information concerning the Wednesday morning robbery of First Place Bank's downtown office contact either the Youngstown Police Department at (330) 742-8900 or the FBI at (330) 965-2940.
In the hours after the 10:45 a.m. robbery, city police scoured the downtown area looking for the suspect, who robbed First Place Bank in the International Towers building, 25 Market St.
The FBI said the robber gave a note to a teller demanding money. According to city police, the note said, "I've got a loaded gun in my pocket. Don't panic. No alarms. Pass me your $20s, $50s and $100s." The robber then produced a brown paper bag into which the female teller placed an undisclosed amount of $50 and $100 bills, police said.
The robber was last seen leaving the area on foot northbound on Market toward the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant before going east on the street being built where the Federal Plaza used to be, witnesses said.
Description of robber
The robber, who witnesses said did not show a weapon during the robbery, is described as a thin black man in his early 20s to early 30s, about 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 120 to 130 pounds. He has short black hair and stubble to a light beard.
The man was wearing a black T-shirt with wide horizontal stripes or possible writing, blue jeans and sneakers, according to Gerald Mack, special agent in charge of the Cleveland office of the FBI. The robber's pants carried an emblem on the rear of one leg, police said.
