Tobin unveils plans for schools finance committee
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bishop Thomas J. Tobin announced the creation of the Ad Hoc School/Parish Finance Committee on Tuesday.
The group will convene as part of the implementation of the Diocesan Directions for the Ministry of Catholic Schools that resulted from regional schools meetings held last February and March.
The committee's purpose will be to "review current policies and funding formulae relative to Catholic Schools" and to make recommendations to Bishop Tobin by June.
"The importance of the mission and ministry of Catholic education cannot be overstated," the bishop wrote in his appointment letter. "At this challenging yet hopeful time in our diocese, I want to be certain that our financial resources both as a diocese and in our parishes are utilized to further the ministry of Catholic schools without placing undue burdens on any single source of funding."
Dr. Michael Skube, superintendent of Catholic schools, will convene the group, and Robert Hoffman, executive director of financial services, and Wallace Dunne, director of government programs and resource development, will serve as staff.
Committee members are:
