To talk about levies
CORTLAND -- The Lakeview school board will meet in special session at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the high school media center to discuss the levies on the November ballot. Discussion will include the possibilities if the levy passes and the consequences to the school district if it fails, board officials said. District voters are being asked to approve a five-year, 4.5-mill emergency levy that would generate about $1.14 million annually and renew an emergency 3.4-mill levy for another five years.
Budget raised 2.2%
McDONALD -- The school board has approved an annual appropriation for the 2004-05 fiscal year of $6,344,998, some 2.2 percent higher than last year. The 2.2 percent increase for the fiscal year, which runs from July 1, 2004, to June 30, 2005, is caused by increases in salaries and benefits, Radabaugh said.

NILES -- Preliminary hearings are set for Monday for two men charged with several felonies after they led police on a 15-minute chase through Trumbull County last weekend. Jesse Mitchell, 20, of Barcelona Road, and Nicholas Robison, 19, of Royal Mall, are due back in Niles Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Sept. 20 after their arraignments Monday. The pair were arrested after police said they fled from Royal Mall apartments in a stolen truck and drove on state Route 82 before Brookfield police stopped them. Police were originally responding to calls Friday night where neighbors said Mitchell was wandering the parking lot carrying a bat or a pipe, but it was actually a rifle police say Mitchell fired. Mitchell is charged with two counts each of felonious assault and receiving stolen property and one count each of fleeing and eluding, discharging a firearm, driving under suspension and reckless operation. Robison is charged with a felony count of receiving stolen property.
