SOCCER Gavolas propels Poland win; Niles' Mang scores 3 goals
Mooney's Kiki Willis each scored three goals against Ursuline.
POLAND -- Senior midfielder Lenny Liguore found Stephen Gavolas for the game's only goal in Tuesday's second half as the Poland High soccer team defeated Howland, 1-0.
The Bulldogs are 5-0-2, 2-0-1 after the Metro Athletic Conference game.
Niles 4, Canfield 2
CANFIELD -- Scoring three goals for Niles was senior Nate Mang on assists by Justin Shelton, and Andrew Nagy. Also scoring for Niles was Scott Tominey.
Scoring unassisted goals for the Cardinals were freshman Mario Nigr and senior Scott Siddal. Junior goalkeeper Mike Mussili made 19 saves.
Mooney 7, Ursuline 0
STRUTHERS -- Senior Kiki Willis scored three goals in Mooney's shutout at the Tri-County Sports Complex.
Mooney (6-0-1, 4-0 Steel Valley Conference) is ranked first in the state by the soccer coaches association.
Dom DiPasquale, Kyle Buxman, Zack Hernan and Nick Lutz also scored for the Cardinals. DiPasquale, Buxman and Kevin Miller assisted on goals.
Jerod Daley saved 11 shots in goal for the Irish.
Boardman 2, Lake 1
UNIONTOWN -- Enriques Urrutia and Nick Antonucci scored goals for the Spartans (3-2-2, 2-0-2) in a Federal League game.
Barrett Singleton had an assist for Boardman, which outshot Lake 11-5. David Juarez scored for the Blue Streaks.
Champion 2, Lakeview 2
CORTLAND -- John Emery scored both goals for the Golden Flashes (4-0-3, 2-0-1 TAC) and has 17 for the season. Chris Palm made an assist.
Jeremy Mink scored both goals for the Bulldogs (6-0-1, 2-0-1 TAC).
Champion had 15 shots on goal and Lakeview 25. Golden Flashes goalkeeper Rich Slama made 15 saves.
Lakeview goalkeeper Alex Koltsov made nine saves.
Hubbard 6, LaBrae 2
HUBBARD -- Anthony Tombo scored three goals and had two assists for the Eagles (2-4). A.J. Pulice added two and Joe Wylie had one.
Cody Ozanich scored both goals for the Vikings (2-5).
Hubbard had 29 shots on goal and LaBrae had six.
Vikings goalkeeper Dan Dean made 23 saves.
United 5, East Palestine 4
EAST PALESTINE -- Ben Stryffler scored two goals for United (3-3) while Austin Dangler had a goal and an assist.
Brock Volio and Shawn Timmons also scored a goal apiece.
For East Palestine, Brandon Hull scored twice while Corey Brittain and Ricky Plum each had one goal.
Goalkeeper Spencer Widlicka saved seven shots for United and Becky Hill made eight saves for East Palestine.
Crestview 1, Columbiana 1
COLUMBIANA -- Kyle Martin scored for the Clippers while Ryan Guy made 22 saves.
Heartland Christian 3, Mogadore Christian 3
COLUMBIANA -- Derek Patterson scored two goals and Blake Kozma the other for HC (3-2-1).

STRUTHERS -- After Ursuline took a 1-0 lead at the break, Champion scored in the final 40 minutes to knot the match 1-1.
Jessica Bennett scored off a pass from Brittiny Skeels for the Flashes (3-2-3).
Champion took more shots on goal, 14-13.
