Niles police investigate vehicle they think struck 11-year-old girl

Niles and Warren police had been looking for the SUV based on registrations from the state.
NILES -- City police say they have possibly found the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident that severely injured an 11-year-old girl.
Traffic Officer John Marhulik said Warren police found a Mazda sport-utility vehicle with front-end damage in the city Monday.
The vehicle was towed to Niles and will be processed for evidence by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.
Annie Lee of Deer Creek Lane, Howland, was struck Aug. 16 as she crossed U.S. Route 422 at North Road while walking with her grandmother. She remains hospitalized at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland.
The vehicle that sped off was said to be gray or a dark color. The confiscated vehicle is black, Marhulik said.
Marhulik said that police obtained a list of vehicles matching the description of the SUV involved in the crash from the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles in Trumbull, Columbiana and Portage counties.
Marhulik said he was checking out vehicles, as were two Warren officers.
When Warren police found the damaged vehicle, Marhulik and Capt. Chuck Wilson went to Warren to photograph and retrieve it.
