YOUNGSTOWN -- A 32-year-old Tudor Lane man told police he was jumped by eight to 10 men in their early 20s and robbed of $40 as he walked on Pasadena Avenue just west of South Avenue Tuesday evening. The victim, who was knocked to the ground and suffered multiple scrapes and bruises, said the robbers demanded money, grabbed it from his pocket and fled south on South Avenue at 6:15 p.m.
Farm market music
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Upstairs Trio jazz group will perform at 11 a.m. Saturday at the final North Side Farmers Market of the season. The market is open from 9 a.m. to noon on Elm Street between Park and Woodbine avenues, across from Wick Park just north of Youngstown State University. The market offers fresh produce from local farmers including tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, fresh fruits and berries and seasonal vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and sweet corn. There also are games and arts and crafts for children.
2010 program to air
YOUNGSTOWN -- "Race & amp; Youngstown 2010: Vision or Division" is the title of the next installment of the 2010 Moving Ahead program to be aired at 8 p.m. Sept. 22 by WYSU-FM and PBS Channels 45 & amp; 49 from the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. Jay Williams, director of the Youngstown Community Development Agency, will be the host. The event is part of a series of quarterly broadcasts in which community leaders update Mahoning Valley residents on progress toward meeting Youngstown 2010's goals.
Valley people indicted
CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury has indicted three Mahoning Valley residents, the U.S. Attorney said. Sir I. Johnson, 28, of Chicago Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Eric J. Shields, 32, of West Delason Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with distributing crack cocaine between Jan. 2 and July 13, 2004. Michael L. Green Jr., 24, of Front Street, Warren, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Water shut off
AUSTINTOWN -- Water was to be shut off until 2:30 p.m. today on Canfield-Niles Road and Lou Ida Boulevard for relocation of a 16-inch waterline as required for the widening of state Route 46 near Interstate 80. After water service is restored, those in that area are asked to boil water they use for cooking and drinking until further notice that the water has tested safe, the Youngstown Water Department advised.
Part-time officer
HUBBARD -- Township trustees hired Michael R. Rendziniak on Monday as a part-time reserve police officer. Rendziniak is a December 2003 graduate of the MTC Police Academy in Niles.

AUSTINTOWN -- The Reserve Officers Association will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Austin Manor, 3104 S. Canfield-Niles Road (state Route 46).
