AWARD WINNERS YSU Football



These 10 Youngstown State players were cited for outstanding performances in the Penguins' 22-16 overtime loss to Florida International last Saturday.
Hill Barth & amp; King Offensive Player of the Game:
Monquantae Gibson, sophomore tailback, Louisville, Ky. Gibson, a transfer from Kentucky, rushed for 122 yards in 22 attempts for a 5.5-yard average. On YSU's drive to go ahead 16-3, he rushed for 53 yards in nine carries.
Hill Barth & amp; King Defensive Player of the Game:
Jason Perry, sophomore cornerback, Warrensville Heights. Perry had a career-high 11 tackles for his second straight impressive game after intercepting two passes in the opener against Slippery Rock.
Hill Barth & amp; King Special Teams Player of the Game:
Joe Bishop, sophomore punter, Canton. Bishop tied his career high of nine punts while averaging 43.6 yards a kick. Four were placed inside the 20-yard line. He also had three punts longer than 50 yards, including one of 58 yards, which was the second-longest of his career. His other punts were 56 and 54 yards. Bishop is averaging 40.8 yards in 15 punts this season..
Jim Zdelar Offensive lineman:
Ryan Jewell, sophomore center, Warren. Jewell showed leadership while making many defensive calls, and achieved a high grade in blocking.
Jermaine Hopkins Defensive Lineman:
Nate Baston, senior defensive tackle, Bethel Park, Pa.
Scout Offensive Player of the Week:
Troy Norman, freshman fullback, Akron.
Scout Defensive Player of the Week:
Tim Dewberry, red-shirt freshman linebacker, Canfield.
Scout Special Teams Player of the Week:
Chris Russo, freshman defensive back, Boardman.
