School board names new principal for Artman
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The principal at Jamestown Elementary School will become the principal at the Artman Elementary School here as of Oct. 4.
The Hermitage School Board, meeting in special session Monday, named Brian Schaller to the post vacated by Bonnie O'Mahony, who was promoted to the position of director of administrative services in August.
Schaller, who lives in Hermitage, will be paid $71,521 a year. His duties will include some oversight at the Hermitage Elementary School, which doesn't have a principal either. A head teacher handles most of the day-to-day administrative duties in that building.
Superintendent Karen Ionta said more than 20 people applied for the Artman position and 14 were called in for initial interviews. Schaller was one of three called back for a second interview and his selection was based primarily on his experience, Ionta said.
Schaller is a graduate of Edinboro State University and has a master's degree and administrative certificate from Youngstown State University.
He served as a principal in Jamestown since 1999 and was an elementary school teacher in the Sharon City School District from 1991 to 1999.
