Man robs barmaid
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 29-year-old barmaid at Avalon Gardens, 1719 Belmont Ave., was robbed at gunpoint at about 11 p.m. Monday.
The victim told police a man came into the bar and asked for water. When she told him he had to purchase something to be served and asked for identification, he pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at her while keeping it by his waist to shield it from the view of patrons.
He ordered her to give him $900. She emptied the cash register of about $175, after which the gunman ordered her to go outside with him. She started to walk toward the exit, but then decided not to go outside with the robber. He then fled on foot with the money.
Police said the barmaid was frightened but not physically injured.
