WARREN -- A 28-year-old city man pleaded guilty to a charges related to last year's burglary of the Champion License Bureau, 4447 Mahoning Avenue. Keelan Harris, no street address available, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering and grand theft. He was sentenced to 11 months in prison. His co-defendant, Kevin Evans, 27, no address available, entered innocent pleas to charges of receiving stolen property, grand theft and breaking and entering. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the burglary took place June 23, 2003, and equipment that could be used to make driver's licenses was stolen.
Robbery at Payday
GIRARD -- Two robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of money Monday from Payday Cash Advance, 519 N. State St. The store manager told police two men walked in about 10:45 a.m. and asked about an advance. One of them pulled a semiautomatic handgun while the second went behind the counter and opened the cash drawer, police said.
Purse snatchings
HUBBARD -- Township police think they have identified a purse snatcher who knocked down a woman during the weekend. Detective Mike Begeot said the woman was walking out of Save-a-Step convenience store at Jacobs and Youngstown-Hubbard roads about 9:30 a.m. Saturday. A man knocked her to the ground and took her purse. She was not injured. The suspect was arrested Sunday on Youngstown's East Side after being accused of snatching a purse there.
Pilot for a Day program
VIENNA -- Leonard D. Doing, 12, of Warren is Pilot for a Day and an honorary Air Force Reserve 2nd lieutenant today at the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station. The purpose of the Pilot for a Day program is to reach out to the community by providing a tour of the base to children who live with chronic or life-threatening disease or illness. Leonard receives treatment for combined immune deficiency at Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital in Youngstown. Leonard will receive an aircrew flight suit and other mementos, operate the fire arms training simulator and be taxied aboard a C-130 Hercules aircraft. Nextel of Solon is financial co-sponsor of the program.
Meeting rescheduled
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees have changed the date of their regular meeting from today to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the township administration building. Trustees will have a public hearing at 6 tonight on a request for a zone change from Residential A to Commercial A from Walter Malinowski, 3542 Main St., and a 7 p.m. special meeting will consider a request from Champion Molded Plastics Inc. for a tax incentive or abatement of 60 percent for 10 years on new personal property investments. The company plans to locate in Niles Commerce Park.
