Propane tanks stolen
NILES -- Police are investigating the theft of propane tanks from three city convenience stores.
Employees from Buckeye Beverage on Vienna Avenue, Village Market on South Main Street and Cottage Market on Robbins Avenue all reported that locks on the storage cages outside each building were cut sometime between 10 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.
Reports do not list how many tanks were taken from Buckeye Beverage, but 15 tanks are missing from the Village Market and nine were taken from Cottage Market.
Shots fired into homeleave woman injured
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 64-year-old Indianola Avenue woman was struck in the left arm when shots were fired into her home after an apparent domestic dispute escalated into gunfire early today, according to police reports.
The victim, Frances Simmons, was found by police on her kitchen floor and taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where police said she was in stable condition this morning.
The shooting occurred about 12:30 a.m. after two other people were beaten outside the victim's home by three assailants, who fired multiple shots into the house when they were leaving. The assailants fled on foot toward Cornell Street, Simmons told police.
Police found at least six bullet holes on the south side of Simmons' home.
College visitation day
ALLIANCE -- Mount Union College is inviting all high school seniors and juniors to attend a fall visitation day at the college Saturday.
Visitors will have the chance to meet with faculty, take a tour of the campus and participate in a guided panel discussion. Students and their parents also will have a chance to see the football team play John Carroll University on Saturday evening. Tickets are provided for those making advance reservations to the college's admissions office.
