NOTEBOOK Browns vs. Ravens

Paying tribute: The Browns honored members of their 1964 team, which stunned the Baltimore Colts in the NFL championship game 27-0. It was the last time a Cleveland team won a title in one of the major pro sports. "It was so exciting to meet the team," said Browns quarterback Jeff Garcia. "I took so much of what they talked about to heart. They talked about how teamwork is so essential to success."
Stopping the run: Ravens running back Jamal Lewis ran for an NFL-record 295 yards in the teams' first meeting last year en route to a 2,000-yard season and a Pro Bowl berth. He ran for 205 yards in his second game against the Browns. Think Cleveland's defense focused on stopping Lewis this week? "All week? We've been thinking about this since the end of last season," said defensive lineman Kenard Lang. "We couldn't wait." Lewis had just 57 yards on 20 carries (2.9 average) and his longest run was 9 yards. "The defense, you cannot say enough about those guys," said Browns coach Butch Davis. "They just rose to the occasion. They challenged each other. They talked about it for the last two weeks, making a commitment."
MIA: Both teams were missing key starters. Browns running back Lee Suggs was out with a neck stinger and was replaced by William Green. For Baltimore, All-Pro tackle Jonathan Ogden was out with a knee injury. Ethan Brooks started in his place. Ravens cornerback Corey Fuller, who was released by the Browns two years ago and has been an outspoken critic of Butch Davis, was also inactive.
