Mercer County man enters guilty plea in murder case

MERCER, Pa. -- There won't be any trial for a Sharon man accused of killing his girlfriend in January.
Anthony C. Teague, 33, of Baldwin Avenue, pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of third-degree murder.
The plea offer came from Teague's attorney, and Robert Kochems, the assistant Mercer County district attorney handling the case, said it contains an agreement between the prosecution and defense for Teague to serve 20 to 40 years in state prison.
Teague had been facing trial this week on a charge of first-degree murder.
Formal sentencing will occur at a later date.
Murder charge
Teague was accused of fatally shooting Tedda Otey, 31, of Youngstown, in his home on Jan. 12.
The two had lived together for years and had four children together, but Otey and the children had recently moved out.
Authorities said she came back to Sharon on the day she died to pick up some prescription medication for the children from Teague.
Authorities said Otey refused Teague's overtures to move back in with him and he shot her. He then shot himself in the chest in an apparent suicide attempt and then fled the scene in Otey's car, authorities said. He was arrested the next day at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Authorities said Otey's family agreed to the plea arrangement, indicating they didn't want to go through a murder trial.
Teague had confessed the slaying more than once after his arrest.
