HELOISE Funeral home provided duplicate florist cards

Dear Heloise: We recently had a death in our family, and here is one very thoughtful procedure the funeral service provided that we really appreciated. Double cards were provided for all floral arrangements and potted plants. One card stayed on the plant, and duplicates were in a large envelope, each giving the description of the plant and the name and address of the giver.
We received several beautiful potted plants, each one a different type, and we lost two because we could not determine if they needed to be indoor or outdoor, the proper watering, sunlight or shade, etc. It would be wonderful if florists would include with gift plants the name of the plant and instructions for proper care. Connie, I'm sorry for your family loss. It was kind of you to send in this very helpful hint. Heloise
P.S. You can always call the florist, and someone there should be able to tell you what the plant is and how to care for it.
Dear Heloise: I have several great ideas for all those twist-ties that we all have lying around our kitchens. Instead of just throwing them away, here are some suggested uses:
UBinding the numerous cables together on the back of your television (to minimize clutter).
UKeeping your pens and pencils together in a drawer.
UHanging Christmas-tree ornaments. (I did this in a pinch!)
UIdentifying the different keys on your key chain (by using different-colored twist-ties).
UIdentifying each person's wineglass at a party (just as effective as the store-bought decorative identifiers, but cheaper! Just twist a different-colored one around each stem).
UKeep some in your purse or car in case of emergencies -- like when you break a shoelace, lose your hair tie or break a clasp on your bracelet. Penelope Wheeler, St. Paul, Minn.
Dear Heloise: Any leftovers I have that are not enough for another meal, I put in a container I keep in the freezer. Everything goes in there -- except, of course, the obvious, like fruit, etc. Veggies, meats and pasta (even spaghetti) are good. When the container (I use a quart one) is full, I chop the contents and mix with a saut & eacute;ed onion and green pepper, with seasonings to taste. Wrap in large flour tortillas (like burritos) and brown in hot oil. They are delicious served with salsa, and you have a meal or two out of what ordinarily would have been thrown out. J. Dear Heloise: One of my pet peeves is manufacturers making coupon expiration dates anywhere during the month. I have some that expire on different days within the month. I usually go through my coupons before the last Friday (our shopping day) of each month and pull out those that expired earlier in the month. I wish all manufacturers would make each coupon expire on the last day of the month. Trying to Save Money in Kansas
