CRIME 2 men suffer gunshot wounds after fight escalates outside store
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two men were shot Saturday night when a fight outside Waynie's Snack Shop, 1363 Rigby St., escalated about 9:30.
Edgar J. Davis, 20, of Valley Street was shot in the right foot, and a bullet struck Dave Williams, 18, of Tampa Avenue, in the right hip, police said. Both men were admitted to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where they were listed in stable condition this morning.
Davis told police he was outside Waynie's when a friend got into an argument with a man who pulled a handgun and started shooting. Davis said that after he was shot in the foot he and a friend got into another friend's car and went to the hospital.
Williams, in a different car when the shooting began, said he had opened the door to leave the car and get on the ground when he was struck by a bullet after it passed through the driver's side door and the car's front seats. Williams was taken to the hospital by friends.
In a separate shooting, Curtis Gawdy, 34, of Hilton Avenue was wounded in the right leg as he was walking on Glenwood Avenue near Sherwood Avenue about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Gawdy, who was treated at St. Elizabeth's, told police he heard a shot and then felt pain in his leg. He noticed a hole in his trousers and discovered that he had been shot.
