NOTEBOOK | The Buckeyes vs. The Thundering Herd

First game: Saturday's game was the first meeting between the schools. The contest was originally an open date on OSU's schedule, but when San Jose State asked to be released from its game with the Buckeyes on Sept. 25, Marshall was added. Now, Ohio State's bye week is Sept. 25.
Hall of Fame: Ohio State was celebrating Hall of Fame weekend. During halftime festivities, introductions included former Buckeyes coach Earle Bruce, who also coached at Salem High School.
Record update: Coach Jim Tressel's record prior to the Marshall game was 33-7. His personal coaching record against the Thundering Herd was 2-3.
Stripes: Former South High athlete Julius Livas was the line judge for Saturday's game.
Lane doesn't play: Former Hubbard High standout Shaun Lane took part in pre-game warm-ups with the defensive backs. Lane, a true freshman, wears jersey No. 29. His father, Garcia, was also a Buckeye.
Habit: Jonathan Goddard's return of a fumble for a touchdown in the second quarter was the third time the Marshall defensive end accomplished the feat in his career. Goddard is a 6-0, 246 senior.
