Thiel 22, Ohio Wesleyan 19
DELAWARE -- Darrell Satterfield threw his third touchdown pass to Brandon Chambers with 3:14 to play, putting Thiel ahead to stay in a 22-19 win over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday.
Satterfield completed 21 of 34 passes for 304 yards without an interception. Chambers caught nine passes for 178 yards for the Tomcats (1-1), who overcame a 10-0 halftime deficit.
Chambers caught a 54-yard TD pass in the third quarter to make it 10-7. The Tomcats took their first lead at 14-13 on Chambers' 19-yard TD catch with 14:01 remaining.
After the Battling Bishops (0-2) went ahead 19-14 on Eric Indiciani's 2-yard TD run with 5:06 to play, Chambers gave the Tomcats the lead for good with a 25-yard TD catch.
Ohio Wesleyan took a 10-0 lead on Ryan Sir Louis' 63-yard touchdown pass to Nick Rice late in the second quarter. Sir Louis finished 14-of-23 for 203 yards and rushed for 70 yards on 18 carries.
Bluffton 24, Hiram 6
BLUFFTON -- Ben Dodds rushed 21 times for 165 yards and two touchdowns to lead Bluffton. Dodds had scoring runs of 25 and 67 yards in the first quarter to give the Beavers (2-0) a 14-0 lead. The Terriers (0-2) made it 14-6 on Max Kravitz's 29-yard touchdown pass to Greg Kibler with 5:15 remaining in the third quarter. Bluffton's Leon Payne caught a 63-yard TD pass from Aaron Krieger about a minute later to put Bluffton ahead 21-6. Payne had four receptions for 84 yards, and Krieger was 9-of-17 for 116 yards with two interceptions.
Tim Anderson led Hiram with 92 yards rushing on 23 carries. Kravitz finished 10-of-29 for 117 yards.
Slippery Rock 30, Shepherd 27
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Ray Daniel's 38-yard field goal with 1:07 left in the game lifted Slippery Rock to the decision.
Josh Kneiss rushed 32 times for 142 yards for Slippery Rock (1-2). He had TD runs of 17, 9 and 4 yards.
Shepherd (0-3) came from 13 points down to tie the game 27-27 on Dustin Dudinski's 78-yard punt return and Dan Peters' 78-yard interception return in the third quarter.
Shepherd's offense was held to zero yards rushing on 27 attempts. Len Ferguson went 17-of-35 for 220 yards with four interceptions.
Malone 33, Charleston 26
CANTON -- Brad Reifsnyder threw three consecutive touchdown passes, including a 70-yarder, in the third quarter to ignite Malone. Reifsnyder also threw 5 yards for a touchdown to tie it at 7-7 in the first quarter, and Jeremy Rininger added a 21-yard field goal for the Pioneers (1-0).
Reifsnyder completed 11 of 22 passes for 193 yards and rushed for 61 yards.
The Golden Eagles (1-2) took a 13-10 lead at halftime after two field goals from Mike Zimmerman. Charleston quarterback Cory Isner finished 11-for-26 passing for 148 yards and ran for a 1-yard score. Backup Kyle Fields completed 7 of 10 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns, both with less than four minutes left to play.
Grove City 16, Carnegie Mellon 14
PITTSBURGH -- Grove City (2-0), off to its best start since 1994, picked up its first win at CMU's Gesling Stadium. After Carnegie Mellon (1-1) scored first, Grove City scored its 16 points, all in the first half. Brandon McGlothlin scored on a 1-yard run to make it 10-7 and Dave DiDonato hauled in a 9-yard aerial from Cradford Clark for a 16-7 margin.
As a team Grove City gained 106 yards on 53 carries.
Alma 52, Bethany 14
BETHANY, W. Va. -- Boardman High graduate Nazih Banna had an outstanding game passing for the Bison (0-2). Banna was 20-for-35 for 252 yards and two touchdowns. The Scots (1-0) racked up 562 total yards. Alma trailed 7-0 after one quarter but put 45 unanswered points on the board to take control 45-7 after three quarters.
Walsh 18, W. Liberty 13
NORTH CANTON -- Chase Hostetler rushed for 197 yards on 37 carries and Dan Kane threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to DanJuan Witcher with 4:10 remaining, putting Walsh ahead to stay. West Liberty (2-1) then drove to the Walsh 16-yard line, but turned the ball over on downs. Derick Stickles led the Hilltoppers with 154 yards rushing and a touchdown on 30 carries.
Kane, who completed 8 of 19 passes for 123 yards, threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Darryl Owens in the first quarter to put the Cavaliers (2-0) ahead 9-0. West Liberty took a 13-9 lead on Jay Gullion's 47-yard touchdown pass to Brian Syzdek late in the first quarter and Stickles' 4-yard TD run with 4:38 left in the second. Walsh closed to 13-12 on Michael Lum's 34-yard field goal early in the third quarter.
