WARREN -- A 44-year-old Canfield man, convicted of stealing from an elderly couple, was released from prison after serving more than half his sentence.
Daniel Farah was released Friday after a brief hearing in the courtroom of Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
LuWayne Annos, an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, said Farah also made full restitution to the elderly couple.
In September 2002, Farah pleaded in connection with stealing $15,800 from the elderly Vienna couple.
He entered guilty pleas to five counts of theft. He also apologized to the victims.
Farah was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to make restitution.
Conditions
As a condition of being released early from prison, Judge McKay told Farah that he will be placed on five years of intensive supervision.
As a condition of probation, Farah must not have any illegal drugs or alcohol, he cannot frequent any bars or taverns and he must get a job.
Farah at the time of his sentencing told the court that he owed the couple the money and said he was going to take his punishment & quot;like a man. & quot;
Annos said the thefts occurred after Farah met the couple's son in April 2001, when the two were inmates at the Mahoning County Jail.
The couple's son was in jail awaiting an appearance in federal court. He is doing time on drug charges.
Farah was in the Mahoning County lockup on a charge of receiving stolen property.
When Farah was released, he contacted the couple and told them that if they gave him money, he could get an attorney that would be able to help their son.
Annos said the couple thought the attorney would be able to get their son's sentence reduced.
The couple gave Farah five payments before they contacted authorities.
Farah was released two years ago from a federal prison after serving two years on a fraud conviction.
