Surprise party and Mass held on Alessi 50th

XYOUNGSTOWN -- The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alessi , 3857 Baymar Drive, was celebrated Sept. 6 during a Mass officiated by the Rev. Ed Brienz at St. Patrick Church in Leetonia where they were married on Sept. 6, 1954.
Afterward the couple's family and members of their original bridal party attended a surprise party held in their honor at A.R.S. Banquet Center.
Hosts for the event were their children and their spouses, Christina and John Gossett of Hillsboro, Sandra and Dave Cooper and Lisa and Tim Cooper, all of Poland, and Major Joseph and Dia Alessi of Fort Leavenworth, Kan. There are also 12 grandchildren in the family.
Mrs. Alessi was employed as a commissioner for Ohio Air Quality Development Authority prior to retiring, and is a sacristan and wedding coordinator at St. Christine Church, where the couple are members.
Mr. Alessi, who is also retired, was a safety director for the city of Youngstown. He is president of the Men's Garden Club of Youngstown.
