Programs provide services to travelers any time of the day or night

NEW YORK (AP) -- If you wish you had a concierge 24/7 -- or maybe just a personal assistant who's good at handling emergencies -- there are a couple of services you might want to check out.
Hotels.com is offering a service called Trip Assist that you can sign up for when you make your lodging reservations on the company's Web site.
Trip Assist is a roadside assistance and concierge services program including emergency towing, gas delivery, tire changes, lockout services, jump starts and a toll-free number.
Trip Assist can provide airline schedules, golf course and restaurant locations, weather reports, driving directions, traffic information and directory assistance. The cost is $9.99, but you must buy the service when you make your reservation on www.hotels.com. Benefits are available from one day before each trip begins to one day after the trip ends for trips lasting up to 21 days.
'Rescue Line'
The Air Travelers Association also has a service, called "Rescue Line," providing round-the-clock telephone-based emergency assistance around the world.
Membership is $49.95 a year and sign-ups are available only via the organization's Web site, www.airtravelersassociation.com.
The support includes everything from turn-by-turn directions if you get lost while driving, to helping you rebook your air ticket if your plane is canceled, to helping you find a doctor in a strange city and medical evacuation if necessary. ATA's Rescue Line will also help you deal with car rental hassles and other ground transportation; hotel bookings; and roadside assistance when your car breaks down. Should your travels involve getting busted, ATA will even help you make bail and find a lawyer.

A friendly voice will dispatch a friendly face to help change your tire or start your car virtually anywhere, anytime, for $45 a year (plus a $10 enrollment fee).
