PA. PARKS McConnell's Mill
Programs about birds and tea making are slated for this weekend and next at McConnell's Mill State Park, near Portersville, Pa.
It's for the Birds! This discussion about bird feeding and making bird feeders from recycled items will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today in the Mill Courtyard.
Fall Teas: A naturalist will be on hand from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Kildoo picnic area to talk about how to find, gather and prepare natural ingredients to make a variety of teas. Samples will be available after the program.
Women's Day Trek: This event, part of Get Outdoors Pa., will emphasize how to make women feel comfortable in the wilderness. Experienced outdoorswomen will discuss building awareness and competence in the outdoors, and a hike will take place. The program starts at 10 a.m. next Sunday. To register, call Venture Outdoors at (412) 255-0564 or visit http://www.ventureoutdoors.org.
The park also offers two, half-hour Corn-Grinding Demonstrations that begin at 1 and 3 p.m., as well as two, 45-minute Historic Grist Mill Tours that start at 2 and 4 p.m. The tours take participants through the history of how grain has been made into flour. Both events are on Saturdays and Sundays in the Old Mill.
