WARREN -- Max Brugle had a goal and an assist to lead the Champion High boys soccer team to a 3-1 win over Warren JFK, in a battle of ranked Division III teams Saturday.
John Emery and Brett Sulonen also scored for the Flashes, who were ranked second in the state in the latest poll. Rich Slama had six saves for Champion.
Kyle Schimley scored and Jon Poponak had the assist for JFK, which was ranked 10th. Brian Wolnik had seven saves.
Mathews 1, Chaney 0
VIENNA -- Sophomore keeper Brett Ford had Mathews' first shutout in two years, collecting five saves, as the Mustangs won their first game of the year.
Brittany Seman scored the game's only goal on a penalty kick with 13 minutes left in the game to key Mathews (1-2-1), which out-shot Chaney 32-9.
Jarrod Garcia and Jeff Ash combined for 10 saves for the Cowboys (1-4-1).
Poland 6, Hubbard 0
HUBBARD -- Dan Malaniak scored three goals and made an assist for the Bulldogs (4-0-1). Steve Gardas, P.J. Booth and Matt Shirilla had the other goals. Mike Hallock had two assists.
Aaron Severa made 11 saves for the Eagles (1-4-1).

COLUMBIANA -- Eric Maraczi and Matt Meyer scored goals for the Panthers.
Dennis Twaddle scored in the second half for the Rebels (3-2-1).
Canton South 3, United 2
CANTON -- Josh Oberlin, Justin White and Scott Klement each scored for the Wildcats. Bryan Ferrer had an assist, while goalkeeper Ryan Taylor made six saves.
Brock Volio scored both goals for the Eagles (2-3-0). Austin Dangler and Travis Bailey each had an assist. Keeper Spencer Widlicka made 13 saves.
Girls
STRUTHERS -- Mariah Snyder scored two goals as the Ursuline High girls soccer team dropped visiting Canfield 2-1 on Saturday at Tri-County Sports.
The Irish (2-3) took a 1-0 lead on Snyder's first half goal on an assist by Leann Jordon. Canfield's Tia Norris tied the score on an assist by Liz Vernal early in the second half. Snyder then scored her second goal off a free kick by Jeralyn Tondo-Steele and an assist by Katelyn Tondo-Smith.
Ursuline keeper Jolanta Carkido had 13 saves, while Ashley Conti had four for Canfield (2-1).
Warren JFK 4, Warren Harding 1
CHAMPION -- Lexie Polivka had two goals while Katie Piacquadio had one goal and three assists and Jenn Natale one goal, to lead Warren JFK's offense in the Champion Tournament. Goalie Jenna Gilmore had four saves for the Eagles (4-2).
Lilly Lafage scored the only goal for Harding (1-4), while goalie Stephanie Cross had 14 saves.
Poland 1, Champion 1
CHAMPION -- Poland's Maureen Malone scored the game-tying goal on an assist by Laura Hassay in the first half as the Bulldogs salvaged a tie to stay unbeaten.
Pamela Shure had two saves for Poland (2-0-1), which out-shot Champion 20-6.
Carlie Dawson scored on an assist by Gina Calderone for the Flashes (3-2-2). Jessica Wood had 15 saves.
Lakeview 6, Badger 1
KINSMAN -- Paige Paulis scored four goals for the Bulldogs (4-1).
Rachel Taddei had two goals and Lindsay Mellot recorded six saves for Lakeview.
For the Braves (4-1), Michelle Fitch scored and goalie Hayley Jenkins saved 16 shots.
Maplewood 6, Liberty 1
CORTLAND -- Leah Dean had three goals and two assists, while Tori Spencer added two goals and two assists for Maplewood (2-4). Kristina Peterson had the other goal, Britteny Spencer had two assists and Katie Engstrom added an assist. Keeper Bonnee Clute had seven saves.
Amy Banner scored for Liberty on an assist from Rachel Wolf.

GREEN -- Green (2-0-3) did all its scoring in the first half.
The Warriors (3-1) were out-shot, 10-9.
