Students need more sleep than adults: Dr. Michael Sateia, president of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, says between 8.5 and 9.25 hours a night; also, two-thirds of all children experience one or more sleep problems a few nights a week, which further diminishes quality of sleep and daytime performance; parents should detail sleep schedules that are clear and kindly but firmly enforced; parents should be aware that there are behavioral, social and biological effects when adolescents do not get sleep.
