MESOPOTAMIA -- The rural Amish town of Mesopotamia will be transformed into a campsite for more than 600 re-enactors who will be taking part in a Civil War Encampment and Battle on Commons, at state Route 87 and 534 in Northwest Trumbull county.
The event will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, with battles staged each afternoon. Period vendors will be on hand to sell their wares and a number of activities will be available to spectators. Campsite admission is free, and there is a nominal fee for parking and the battlefield.
'Women of Note' to profile Mrs. Hope
YOUNGSTOWN -- Damaris Peters Pike continues her "Women of Note" one-woman shows with "Thanks for the Memories," about Dolores Hope, at noon Sept. 27 in Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. Pike portrays the wife of entertainer Bob Hope as she sings early 20th-century songs and talks about Bob Hope's career path. Tickets are $20, including a light lunch to be served at 11 a.m. Reservations are due by Sept. 23. Steinway piano recital
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College will dedicate a new Steinway piano with a recital by Dr. Nancy Zipay DeSalvo, chair of the music department, at 3 p.m. next Sunday in Orr Auditorium, where the piano will be permanently housed.
The concert grand Steinway was given to the college by the extended Mansell family in memory of Margaret Louise Young Mansell. The concert will feature Haydn's "Sonata in G Major" and Beethoven's "Sonata 26 Opus 81a," and include works of Rachmanioff and Chopin, with "Hungarian Rhapsody 2" as the finale.
Arts council meeting planned Sept. 23
YOUNGSTOWN -- All contributing members of The Arts Council of Youngstown and Mahoning County are invited to the annual meeting at noon Sept. 23 at Youngstown Center of Industry and Labor Steel Museum, 151 W. Wood St.

Gallery art showfeatures paintings
CANFIELD -- Old North Church Gallery on Herbert Road will be the setting for a one-woman art show featuring the paintings of Jacqueline Abrams of Liberty from Oct. 3 to 24.
Abrams is an associate member of the Ohio Watercolor Society and a member of Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society and Trumbull Art Guild. She also is a docent and volunteer at Butler Institute of American Art and has received awards for her art work.
Barbershop showplanned at TNT
