78-year-old Anthony Vitale rolls first 300
WARREN -- Anthony Vitale Sr. had his first 300 at age 78 in Friday Night Mixed at Freeway Lanes on Sept. 3.
"I'm kind of amazed at this age," said Vitale, a Warren resident. "It's not easy to throw 12 strikes in a row. Somehow, it happened."
The 300 was the second game of a 735 set. His third game was 194. Vitale's previous best single was 299.
The perfect game came during his second outing of the young season. His first league bowling of the 2004-2005 season was Sept. 1 in Wednesday Morning Seniors.
Vitale immigrated to the U.S. from Campobasso, Italy in 1956.
The former Hubbard Businessmen's League at Bell-Wick is now Doughton Businessmen's. John Doughton and Doughton Golf Course are the sponsors. It's the league's first year with any type of sponsorship.
