ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
DANGER LURKS: Sometimes it isn't easy being a proud Democrat. Just ask William L. Jones of Callawoods Drive in Canfield. Someone drove on his lawn this week and ran over his John Kerry sign. Coincidence? Perhaps, but Jones says it isn't likely. Motorists ran over Al Gore signs in his yard in 2000 three times.
Those who run over his Democratic signs may want to think twice about doing it again. Jones plans to put another Kerry sign in his yard. Instead of wooden stakes, Jones will use iron pipe to get the Kerry sign into his lawn. This way, he said, if anyone runs over his sign, they can expect to receive a decent amount of damage to their vehicle. "They'll wipe it out, but it will rip up their car," he said.
Candidates night: The West Side Citizens Coalition of the 4th and 5th Wards is holding a candidates night at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Industrial Road in Youngstown. Candidates running for office in Mahoning County are invited to speak, and to respond to questions from audience members.
Write-ins: Monday is the deadline for those wanting to run in the November general election as write-in candidates. Applications to run as a write-in have to be at county boards of elections in Ohio by 4 p.m. that day.
