WESTMINSTER (0-1)vs. ALLEGHENY (0-1)
When: 1 p.m.Where: Harold Burry Stadium, New Wilmington.Series record: Westminster leads, 25-23-5. Westminster won last year, 3-0.Scouting report: Westminster was drubbed by Ohio Northern last week, 31-0, while Allegheny lost to Baldwin-Wallace, 17-14. Westminster had several standouts. Senior TB Scott Froelich rushed for 88 yards in 19 carries, while sophomore QB J.R. Barley completed 13 of 28 passes for 107 yards with one interception in his first starting role. Senior Brian Ekis (Boardman) led the receivers wigth four catches for 22 yards. On defense, senior DB Clint DeLuca and junior DL Ryan Chmura registered nine tackles apiece, while Chmura also recovered a fumble. Senior DL Tony Ventresco (Boardman) and junior DL Adam Hadbavny each had a sack. Allegheny got a strong performance from sophomore QB Jimmy Savage in the loss to B-W. Savage produced 288 yards of total offense in his first start. He completed 17 of 312 passes for 195 yards and one TD, and led the Gators in rushing with 92 yards in 16 carrfies and one TD. The Gators also had good offensive games from sophomore RB Mario Tarquinio, who rushed for 53 yards on 15 carries; senior wideout Casey Devlin who led all receivers with four receptions for 60 yards. Defensive leaders were sophomore DR Dave Gillenwith a team-best seven tackles and junior LB Vincent Werner and junior DB Keith Keenanwith six stops each. Keenan also had a sack and broke up a pass.

HIRAM (0-1) vs. BLUFFTON (1-0)
When: 1:30 p.m.Where: Dwight Salzman Stadium, BlufftonSeries record: Bluffton leads series, 5-3. Bluffton won last year, 35-20.Scouting report: Bluffton posted a 33-24 win over Centre last week, while Hiram was trounced by Carnegie Melon last week, 44-0. Bluffton was led by junior QB Jared Owens, who threw a career-high three touchdowns and wound up 12-for-21 for 196 yards. Owens also was the Beavers' top rusher with 76 yards and one TD. Bluffton scored three unanswered touchdowns in the final quarter to take the lead. Hiram's offense and defense failed against Carnegie Mellon. GROVE CITY (1-0)vs. CARNEGIE MELLON (1-0)
When: 1:30 p.m.Where: Gesling Stadium, Pittsburgh.Last year: Carnegie Mellon 35, Grove City 21.Series record: Carnegie Mellon leads, 27-17-2.Scouting report: Grove City rocked Manchester in its season opener, 31-0, while Carnegie Mellon romped past Hiram, 44-0. Grove City's defense delivered five sacks and seven turnovers while limiting Carnegie Mellon to just 25 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, junior QB Bradford Clark, making his first start, went 8-for-13 passing while Brandon McGlothin rushed for 121 yards in 20 attempts and three TDs of 8, 3 and 27 yards. McGlothin was named PAC Offensive Player of the Week. Junior Aaron Margo who returned an interception aschool-record 94 yards for a TD. It also was the second-longest play in school history. Carnegie Mellon compiled 380 total yards and 25 first downs in a 44-0 romp past Hiram. Junior RB Joseph Hurley was named University Athletic Association Offensive Athlete of the Week. Hurley score two third-quarter TDs and rushed for 69 yards in 11 carries. THIEL (0-1) vs. OHIO WESLEYAN (0-1)
When: 1 p.m.Where: Selby Field, Delaware, OhioLast year: First meeting.Scouting report: Thiel was whipped by Wisconsin-Platteville, 40-14, in its season opener last wek, while Ohio Wesleyan was outlasted by Franklin, 34-33. Thiel had tied the score at 7-7 early in the second quarter after senior FB Justin Kuban scored a TD, but then the Tomcats yielded five straight Wisconsin-Platteville TDs. Thiel's other TD came on senior QB Darrell Satterfield's 2-yard TD throw to junior WR Dane Haskins, who finished with four catches. Satterfield wound up 10-for-20 in the air for 120 yards. The Tomcats got a good rushing show from junior TB John Dziurznski with a career-best 105 yards on 26 hauls. Junior WR Tom McEntire also had four catches. Ohio Wesleyan's offensive leader against Franklin was junior QB Ryan Sir Louis , who had 123 yards rushing in 13 attempts and was 9-for-17 passing for 103 yards. Sophomore DB Kyle Sherman had two interceptions and a team-high nine tackles for the Battling Bishops.Radio: WPIC-AM 790.
WALSH (1-0)vs. WEST LIBERTY STATE (1-0)
When: 7 p.m.Where: Fawcett Stadium, CantonSeries record: Walsh leads, 4-2. Walsh won last year, 42-17.Scouting report: Walsh opened its 10th season by blanking Ohio Dominican last week, 41-0, in a Mid-States Football Association Mideast game; while West Liberty State rolled past Geneva, 39-14. Walsh's Dan Kane and Allen Reddick were named MSFA, Mideast Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. Kane, a QB, completed eight of 13 passes for 143 yards. Reddick, a junior, intercepted Mike Savino's pass on the second play of the game and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown. Reddick had two interceptions in the game. Walsh's Chase Hostetler led all rushers with 76 yards. The Cavaliers' defense held ODU to 44 yards on the ground. West Liberty Stae's leader against Geneva was sophomore QB Jay Gullion, who hit on 17 of 25 passes for 352 yards and three TDs of 23, 26, and 70 yards without an interception. Gullion was named the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. MALONE (0-0)vs. CHARLESTON (W. VA.) (1-1)
When: 11 a.m.Where: Fawcett Stadium, CantonSeries record: First meeting.Scouting report: Malone will open its 12th season. Sophomore Brad Riefsnyder will start at quarterback. Senior Nyrell Knight will start at wide receiver and also serve as Riefsnyder's back-up at QB. Nyrell led the team in receiving yards last year with 253. Senior Eric Smith will start at RB. Last year, he rushed for 323 yards and two TDs. Shawn Marshall is the FB. On defense, the Pioneers' secondary is experienced. Senior CB Danny Kendrick had six pass breakups and three interceptions last year, while senior safety Mitch Fusek (Canfield) is the top returning tackler with 88 stops last season, including seven sacks, and also four interceptions. Senior placekicker-punter Jeremy Rininger was 11-for-14 in field goals last year and averaged 32.6 yards punting. Besides Fusek, there are 10 other area players on the Malone roster. The others are senior Marty Kanetsky (Hubbard, DB), junior Evan Scheel (Crestview, OL) and freshmen Nicolas Canterino (Girard, WR), Shawn OHalloran (Poland, K), JayYorty (Lisbon, DB), Steve Powell (Girard, LB), Kurt Williams (Leetonia, LB), DanielHarclerode (Niles, OL) and Josh Settlemire (Howland, WR) and Seth Sharp (West Branch, DL). Charleston, meanwhile, is in its second season of football after the program was disbanded nearly 50 years ago following the 1956 season when the team went 5-4. SLIPPERY ROCK (0-2)vs. SHEPHERD (0-2)
When: 1 p.m.Where: Ram Stadium, Shepherdstown, W. Va.Scouting report: Slippery Rock lost a 35-13 decision to Youngstown State last week, while Shepherd lost to Shippensburg, 35-7. Slippery Rock gave a good account of itself against YSU. The Rock compiled 315 yards in total offense, and trailed by only eight points at five minutes into the final quarter, 21-13. It was the second straight week that SRU amassed more than 300 yards in offense. The Rock contained YSU to only 56 yards in total offense in the first half, and held a 6-0 advantage at halftime before the Penguins rallied for 21 third-quarter points. SRU was led by Josh Kniess, a junior RB from Slippery Rock Area High, with 134 yards rushing, while freshman RB Corey Manfull (United High) rushed for 52 yards, including 18 for his first collegiate TD run. Redshirt freshman quarterback Nate Crookshank passed for 115 yards on 13-for-30. Senior HB Brandon Richardson had seven receptions for 57 yards, both career highs. Redshirt freshman kicking specialist Ryan Daniel accounted for seven points with a pair of first-half field goals (31 and 26 yards), and a fourth-quarter extra point kick.
