YSU BASKETBALL Penguins to host Bracket Buster contest on Feb. 19
It will be one of 15 home games Youngstown State will have this season.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State men's basketball team will be one of 32 host schools Feb. 19 as part of the Bracket Buster Saturday announced Wednesday by ESPN.
The event will feature 11 nationally televised games, selected from an expanded pool of 64 teams representing 13 conferences.
Possible opponents
Possible opponents for the Penguins are Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Western Michigan, Bradley, Illinois State, Southern Illinois, Wichita State, Arkansas-Little Rock, New Orleans, San Jose State, SMU, UTEP, Vermont, Northern Arizona, Portland State, Weber State, Cal State-Northridge, Virginia Commonwealth, Drexel, Manhattan, Niagara, Oral Roberts, Valparaiso, Austin Peay, Murray State, Georgia Southern and Chattanooga.
Last season, YSU played at Bowling Green as part of the Bracket Buster.
Games on television
ESPN and ESPN2 will combine to televise six of the 11 Bracket Buster Saturday contests. The other five televised games will be produced and distributed in the markets of the competing teams.
The game will be one of 15 the Penguins will play at Beeghly Center in the 2004-05 season. YSU opens the regular season Nov. 21 against Lock Haven, then plays host to Slippery Rock two days later and Boston University on Nov. 27.
YSU also has non-conference home games scheduled against Bowling Green Dec. 11, Siena Dec. 14 and St. Francis (Pa.) Dec. 29.
The Penguins begin practice Oct. 16 and have an exhibition game scheduled Nov. 5 against Denison.
