MAHONING VALLEY Two horse shows on schedule



The shows will be at Perkins Park in Warren and Canfield Fairgrounds.
Horse lovers will be riding high over two weekends this month.
The 20th annual Western Reserve Classic Horse Show is scheduled Sept. 17-19 at Perkins Park in Warren and the Northern Ohio Quarter Horse Association Fall Futurity and Horse Show, an American Quarter Horse Association-approved show, will be Sept. 24-26 at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Western Reserve show
The Western Reserve show, which has earned national recognition, will award 18 memorial, perpetual or challenge trophies. The three-day event, featuring a main show ring and two hunter rings, is being staged as a benefit for the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County. The event will offer classes for confirmation, equitation, harness and riding horses in English and Western divisions.
Show hours Sept. 17 will be from noon to 10 p.m. and start with competition for American Saddlebred, Arabians and Morgans. The evening will offer riding and driving competition.
Hours will be from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 18 and start with halter, Morgan western and hunter classes, saddle seat and stock seat equitation competition and showmanship. The afternoon will feature leadline, Morgan Park saddle, Arabian English and Western and Morgan pleasure driving classes, and the evening will offer parade horse class, ride and drive class, Arabian mounted native costume class and Saddlebred five-gaited amateur championship.
Show hours Sept. 19 will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include driving classes and championship classes.
Linda Murray of Lexington, Ky., is show judge, and Jane Schubert is show chairman.

Quarter horse show
The quarter horse events will start at 8 a.m. show days. There will be classes for children, adults and over-50. Breeders will compete in the futurity.
Jumping, reining, barrel racing, cutting, roping and pole bending are among the events to be featured at the show along with halter classes that will judge horses on balance, muscling and breed characteristics.
Those showing their horses may earn points to qualify for the AQHA or American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship shows.
