Western Reserve closing
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County Engineer Richard A. Marsico said Western Reserve Road, between Hitchcock and New Buffalo roads, was to close again today for completion of a construction project. The road was reopened temporarily last week to accommodate traffic for the Canfield Fair. Marsico said it will remain closed until November, when the project should be substantially completed.
Recycling drop-offs
BOARDMAN -- A Mahoning County Recycling Division drop-off site at Shields Road and Lockwood Boulevard in the township will reopen Friday. The site was closed a year ago for construction at the township fire station. A drop-off site at the township administration complex on Market Street will remain open permanently.
Treatment program grads
YOUNGSTOWN -- Fourteen youths were to graduate today from treatment programs at Mahoning County Juvenile Court. Six were to graduate from the drug treatment court, five from the day reporting program and three from a 90-day residential substance abuse treatment program. Youngstown Councilman Artis Gillam, D-1st, was to be the guest speaker.
Burglary at tavern
YOUNGSTOWN -- A hole made in the middle of the front door at Southern Tavern, 1508 Glenwood Avenue, set off the alarm at 2:47 a.m. today. When police arrived a few minutes later, they found that the jukebox had been smashed to remove the coin box. It wasn't certain this morning whether anything else had been taken.
Burglary, assault charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kesa Hinson, 21, of Kenmore Avenue was arrested on charges of aggravated burglary and felonious assault after a stabbing at 7 p.m. Tuesday at a house in the 300 block of East LaClede Avenue. Police said Hinson ran into the house with a steak knife in one hand and can of pepper spray in the other. She stabbed Suzzette Torres, 15, of Roxbury Avenue, and then the resident, Kenneth Whatley, 20, used some sort of metal object to smack Hinson on the right side of her face, reports show. Hinson and Torres were both treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
I-79, I-80 lane closures
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said lanes on Interstate 79 and Interstate 80 in Mercer County will close for a while. The northbound and southbound lanes of I-79 at the Grove City interchange near the Prime Outlets will be closed at various locations for sign installation and other work. The eastbound and westbound lanes of I-80 from mile marker zero to mile marker 7 will be closed for paving work. The paving will take place at the state Route 60 interchange with I-80 westbound.
South Ave. vandalism
YOUNGSTOWN -- Several vehicles inside Paul's National Auto Image, 2110 South Ave., were vandalized and bullet holes shattered the business's front window, police said. The vandal or vandals entered by breaking the rear door handle Tuesday morning. Police discovered a broken microwave, paint splashed around the floor and the burglar alarm contacts ripped from their positions.
Fire at Austintown home
AUSTINTOWN -- Fire inspectors are working to determine the origin of a blaze that caused $95,000 worth of damage to a house at 925 North Four Mile Run Road on Tuesday afternoon. There were no people home at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Concert moved
WARREN -- Tonight's performance of the Youngstown State University Dana School of Music Jazz Ensemble I has been moved to Warren G. Harding High School because of anticipated inclement weather. The 6:30 p.m. concert initially was set for the Warren Community Amphitheater.
