HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL Boardman turns back Hoover in loop opener



Mooney, Chaney and Canfield won league contests.
BOARDMAN -- The Boardman High girls volleyball team outlasted North Canton Hoover, 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 26-28 and 17-15, in a Federal League opener Tuesday at the Spartans' gymnasium.
April Melquist led the Spartans (3-2) with 19 kills, seven blocks and four aces. Ali Sfara had 14 kills and nine digs. Jill Sutton scored 12 points and had 11 digs.
Erica Deivel paced the Vikings (3-1, 0-1) with 36 assists.
Mooney 25-25-25, Ursuline 22-15-18
YOUNGSTOWN -- Chelsea Mack had 25 sets, 12 assists, five aces and 13 points for Mooney (4-1).
Taylor Pancoe made 12 serves, 20 hits, five kills and nine points and Ursuline (1-4).
Canfield 25-25-25, Struthers 15-13-6
CANFIELD -- Makenzie Kline led the Cardinals with seven kills and four digs.
Natasha Kassim had 13 points and five aces while Jackie Nentwick had eight points and five aces for the Cardinals (6-0, 3-0).
Nicole Robenolt had four kills and Brianne Ciccone had 10 digs for the Wildcats (1-4, 0-2).
Western Reserve 25-25-25, Campbell 1-7-8
BERLIN CENTER -- Rachael Hernan scored 28 points with nine aces and three digs to spark the Blue Devils (3-2). Sylvia Tofilski had eight points, three aces and three kills.
Touli Xipolitas scored three points and had a kill for the Redmen (0-3).
Chaney 25-25-25-17-15, Rayen 27-13-17-25-11
YOUNGSTOWN -- Shavna Rockwell scored 19 points, with 12 aces to spark the Cowboys. Mary Wheland added 12 points with five aces and Courtney Williams had seven kills.
Sebring 25-25-25,Leetonia 18-12-17
SEBRING -- Ashley Amabeli scored 15 points, with three aces, three kills, one block and three digs for the Trojans (2-2, 2-1 TCL). Kayla Faudree had 12 points, two aces, five kills, eight assists and three blocks. Chlesea Neeb had 11 points and five aces.
Malorie Valentine led the Bears (1-2, 1-2) with 10 points, six kills and five blocks.
Columbiana 25-25-25, Southern 15-9-17
COLUMBIANA -- Cara Hardenbrook had 16 points and 15 points for the Clippers (4-3, 3-0 Tri-County League).
Kylee Crittenden added 11 kills and 10 digs while Kristina Davidson had 11 kills and nine digs for the Clippers.
For the Indians (0-3, 0-3), Lora Van Dyne scored six points with an ace.
Brookfield 25-25-25, Champion 16-17-19
CHAMPION -- Andrea Gladir scored three aces and Rachel Pafquerilla had 13 assists for the Warriors (4-2, 2-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Morgan Bonekovic added eight kills for Brookfield.
For Champion (1-3, 0-2), Haley York scored six points and blocked three balls while Chentel Greathouse assisted 17 times.
LaBrae 25-24-25-25, Newton Falls 20-26-16-15
LEAVITTSBURG -- Maddie DiOrio produced 18 kills and five blocks for the Vikings (2-0, 2-0 TAC).
Lora Bate dug 15 times and Lindsey Higgins assisted 22 times.
For the Tigers (0-3, 0-2), Molly Lenarcic had 10 kills and Brandi Lance had 22 assists.

CORTLAND -- Corrie Gasser had 28 assists, Kylene Hoch had 34 digs and Callie Olyer had four aces for the Eagles (2-0 TAC).
For the Bulldogs (1-1, 1-1), Michelle Antonelli had 28 assists while Kate Barnett had 18 digs.
West Branch 22-25-14-25-16, Canton South 25-21-25-18-14
BELOIT -- Ashley Davis had three points and two passes while Dena New collected 12 points, a block and 31 assists for the Warriors (3-2, 2-1 NBC).
Kylee Shafer also had a block for West Branch.
Lordstown 25-25-25, Bristol 16-17-13
LORDSTOWN -- Ashley Kellar led the way with 18 points and four aces. Samantha Kistler scored 12 points with three aces for Lordstown (3-0, 2-0).
For Bristol (2-2, 1-1), Heidi Giesy collected six points and an ace.
