Emergency landing for jet
ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- An American Eagle regional jet that was en route to Raleigh from Columbus, Ohio, made an emergency landing at Roanoke Regional Airport on Tuesday after smoke was reported inside the aircraft.
The 33 passengers on Flight 4732 were evacuated without incident and the plane landed safely.
Lisa Bailey, spokeswoman for the airline, said officials did not know what caused the smoke inside the cockpit and the cabin. She said there was no fire on the plane.
Bailey said the airline was sending a crew of mechanics to Roanoke in an attempt to determine the problem.
Most of the passengers on the 37-seat Embraer regional jet completed their journey to Raleigh by bus.
