Community Cup set for year's final events



YOUNGSTOWN -- The 15th annual Youngstown Area Community Cup culminates Saturday with events at Mill Creek Park.
Events between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday at the Wick Recreation Area will include a 10K relay, a time prediction walk, a time prediction bike ride, an obstacle course and tug of war.
Employees and spouses from 16 Mahoning Valley companies will participate in the five remaining athletic events. Winners in each of three divisions will be announced at an awards ceremony after the tug of war.
Events also were held Aug. 27-29. About 1,100 people will participate in this year's competition.
Other events included a banner competition, basketball, swimming and volleyball at the Youngstown YMCA, Central Branch. A golf scramble was at the Mill Creek Park Golf Course and a bowling competition was at Camelot Lanes in Boardman.
More than 80 businesses and organizations have participated in the Community Cup, a program of the Youngstown YMCA, since its inception in 1990. The event aims to create an awareness of the importance of physical fitness, encourage teamwork among employees and promote community spirit.
