COLUMBIANA CO. FLOODING Red Cross continues to collect donations
The Red Cross is not collecting used furniture and clothing.
SALEM -- Although the North Columbiana County American Red Cross chapter continues to assist victims of recent flooding, the agency is no longer operating disaster centers in flood-affected areas, said Ginger Grilli, executive director.
Anyone still in need of assistance may call the Red Cross, Grilli said. She said so far, with the help of local volunteers, the Red Cross has sheltered about 70 people, served about 1,000 meals and assisted about 100 families with cleanup, and provided direct assistance for food, clothing, medical supplies and housing.
Grilli said, however, that the Red Cross is not accepting donations of used clothing and furniture for flood victims.
She said all disaster assistance is free, made possible by donations. Disaster assistance offered by the Red Cross does not have to be repaid, she noted.
She said the Red Cross needs to raise more than $12,000 to cover the expenses for the relief operation in Columbiana County, so monetary donations are needed.
Address
Donations can be sent to American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, 667 N. Ellsworth Ave., Salem, OH 44460.
Grilli said if donors mark checks for "Columbiana County Floods" all of the money will be used locally.
