WORLD CUP QUALIFYING Saturday's games

Portugal 2, Latvia 0
LONDON -- Cristiano Ronaldo helped Portugal rebound from its troubles at Euro 2004 and the Olympics. The Manchester United teenager scored the first of his team's two goals during a two-minute stretch in the second half at Riga. Fans were convinced he handled the ball before his goal and he was jeered when he left the field as a late substitution. Pauleta scored the other goal off Ronaldo's cross. The victory was a welcome change for the Portuguese. The national team lost at home to Greece in the European Championship final, and the Olympic team was eliminated in the first round at the Athens Games. Portugal played without Luis Figo, who is taking an indefinite leave from international play. Before the game, both teams met at midfield to observe a moment of silence for the hundreds killed in the Russian school massacre Friday.
Ireland 3, Cyprus 0
DUBLIN -- Ireland has made it to three of the last four World Cups and each time reached at least the second round. Robbie Keane scored the third goal on a penalty kick to tie Niall Quinn's national record of 21 goals.
Poland 3, Northern Ireland 0
BELFAST -- Maciej Zurawski, Piotr Wlodarczyk and Jacek Krzynowek scored. Wlodarczyk was ejected with 11 minutes left and will miss next week's game against England.
Bulgaria 3, Iceland 1
REYKJAVIK -- Coming off a Euro 2004 flop in which it lost all three group games, Bulgaria won behind Dimitar Berbatov's two goals.
