THROUGH THE YEARS Programs of note



Since its organization 70 years ago, the Youngstown Music Teachers Association has presented a diverse array of programs. The presentations not only showcase musical talent but serve as fund-raisers for the group. A sampling includes:
1952: Pianist Carl Friedberg.
1957: Pianist and organist Hermann Gross, continental artist.
1958: Pianist Aldo Mancinelli.
1959: Pianist and composer Robert Witt.
1962: John DeMain, piano concerto.
1964: Pianist Arthur Loesser, Cleveland Institute of Music, master class; and Aurora Ragaini, concert pianist.
1965: Pianist Jeno Takacs.
1969: Pianist Raymond Dudley from Canada, master class.
1973: Kenneth Burky, Duquesne University, piano concert.
1974: Joseph Bloch of Juillard School of Music, educational program.
1975: Sara Phillips, Youngstown State University Dana School of Music, and presentation of first scholarship, and Dr. Earl Russell, a presentation of early instruments.
1976: Concert pianist Olga Llano Kuehl of Kent State University.
1978: Dr. Thomas Richner, "Technique and Mozart Performance."
1982: Marcellene Hawk and Walter Mayhall build foretepiano, a replica of a 1787 Dolkin.
1984: James Tavolario, an all Liszt recital and YMTA marks its 50th year.
1985: Margaret Baxtresser, associate professor at Kent State University, concert and slide show of impressionist painters.
1997: Pianist Carlos H. Costa of Brasil.
2000: Soprano Jennifer Davis and pianist Nancy Zipay DeSalvo.
2002: Marcello Branagan, recital of "great romantics."
2003: Pianist Dr. Kenneth Burky, YMCA 70th anniversary program.
2004: Classical guitarist James Kalal, international artist.
