Springfield sails to second win



Six players scored touchdowns as the Tigers overwhelmed Brookfield.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Melio Rios scored two touchdowns while Aaron Wood, Matt Morrell, Anthony Warren, Jeremy Delvaux and Andy Richie scored one touchdown apiece Friday, as the Springfield High football team walloped Brookfield 47-7.
Warren led the Tigers (2-0) in rushing with 89 yards on eight carries including a 43-yard touchdown.
Quarterback Andrew Schuler completed five of eight passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Wood caught two passes for 43 yards.
For Brookfield (1-1), Dan Davies completed 17 of 31 passes for 180 yards.
Leetonia 47,W. Reserve 7
BERLIN CENTER -- Aaron Merrill scored four touchdowns and rushed for 145 yards on 23 carries for the Bears.
Merrill's scores covered 2, 19 and 39 yards and 1 yard.
Jon Popio led the Bears with 153 yards rushing on seven carries, including a 3-yard touchdown.
For Western Reserve, Adam Young caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Dave Ferrando. Shawn Bryant rushed nine times for 56 yards.
Lowellville 27,Southern 6
LOWELVILLE -- Junior running Lucas Gonzalez rushed 21 times for 190 yards including touchdown runs of 3, 20 and 8 yards to lead Lowellville.
The Rockets scored 13 points in the first quarter then added 14 more in the fourth.
Lowellville gained 212 yards on 46 attempts and quarterback Rich Schrader connected on six of 10 passes for 61 yards, with John Speziale catching three passes for 34 yards.
Southern (0-2) was held to 93 rushing and 29 passing yards.
