POLAND -- An anniversary luncheon and meeting was held Aug. 26 at Poland Library by the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown.
The event celebrated women's right to vote, which was granted by the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution on Aug. 26, 1920.
Patty Rudawsky, club president, spoke on the history of Purple Ribbon Day, and among those acknowledging the special occasion were John A. McNally and Anthony Traficanti, candidates for the office of county commissioner.
Dr. Glorianne Leck, local precinct committee person, was also in attendance. She will be the featured speaker at the league's Sept. 20 meeting. Her topic will be "What It Is Like To Be A Candidate To A National Convention."
Discussion was held on the league's ongoing projects, which include voter registration and the publishing of a pamphlet to inform voters about candidates.
The nonpartisan organization is open to men and women. Anyone interested in league activities can e-mail lwv@cboss.com, visit the Web site at www.cboss.com/lwv or call (330) 783-6290.
