SAN FRANCISCO -- Dustan Mohr doubled in the tying run in the eighth and Deivi Cruz hit a two-run single two batters later, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 9-7 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Marquis Grissom hit a grand slam and also started the eighth-inning rally with a single.
San Francisco came back from a 7-1 deficit to beat the Diamondbacks for the seventh straight time. They pulled within a half-game of the idle Chicago Cubs in the NL wild-card race. The Cubs had their weekend series at Florida postponed because of Hurricane Frances.
Barry Bonds went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, but didn't homer on a day manager Felipe Alou predicted would be a "hitter's festival" because of the heat. It was 87 degrees at first pitch.
Scott Eyre (1-2) pitched the eighth for the win and Dustin Hermanson finished for his ninth save.
Manager restrained
Arizona manager Al Pedrique had to be restrained by his coaching staff after the game as he argued with the umpire crew.
Grissom singled off Mike Koplove (3-3) leading off the eighth, then went to third on pinch-hitter Ray Durham's double. Pinch-runner Jason Ellison replaced Grissom, then scored on Koplove's wild pitch moments later. Pinch-hitter J.T. Snow walked, bringing up Mohr, who lined a double to left.
After Edgardo Alfonzo's groundout, Cruz singled to right.
Grissom's fourth career grand slam came on a 3-2 pitch in the sixth, one of five straight hits the Giants got against Arizona starter Stephen Randolph. The 37-year-old Grissom had fouled a pitch off his left foot earlier in the at-bat and went to the ground in pain. After trainer Stan Conte checked on him, Grissom walked it off and got back in the batter's box.
It was his first grand slam since Aug. 27, 1997, when he was with Cleveland.
Luis Terrero homered leading off the game and Shea Hillenbrand hit two RBI doubles for the Diamondbacks, who blew it a day after an 18-7 defeat -- the club's worst of the season.
Randolph, who missed his last turn because of stiffness in his left throwing shoulder, recorded his first career RBI with a single in the Diamondbacks' four-run fifth. Hillenbrand had his other double that inning and Chad Tracy added a two-run single.
Bonds hits No. 697
Bonds homered for the first time in five games Friday, a two-run shot for No. 697 of his career. Alou had talked about giving Bonds the day off Saturday, but the slugger played only six innings Friday night.
San Francisco starter Noah Lowry's status was uncertain until Saturday morning because he has strep throat and had a temperature over 100 degrees Friday.
He looked good in the early innings.
After Terrero led off the game with a solo homer to left, Lowry retired the next 10 Arizona batters before Tracy singled in the fourth.
Tracy scored on Hillenbrand's first double to make it 2-1.
Lowry, a rookie left-hander, was tagged for four runs on six hits in the fifth alone, and was done after the inning.
Giants starters have gone six innings only once in their last 12 games.
