DOCUMENTARY Motorcycle heroes are highlighted in 'Faster'
The filmmaker followed top motorcycle racers to 16 races on five continents.
BOARDMAN -- "Faster," an independent documentary about grand-prix motorcycle racing, speeds into five Ohio communities -- including this one -- Friday.
The film will be shown daily through Sept. 16 at Tinseltown, near Southern Park Mall, 7401 Market St., and at other Cinemark USA theater chain locations in North Canton, Gahanna, Mansfield and Valley View.
"Faster" director-writer Mark Neale followed The MotoGP Championships in 2001 and 2002. The contest brings together the top 24 motorcyclists in the world for 16 races on five continents.
The thrill of it all
There's action, as motorcycles reach speeds in excess of 200 mph, riders brush their knees against the ground while going around curves and crashes occur at 100 mph with regularity.
There's drama, too, as world champion Valentino Rossi of Italy competes against his rival and countryman, Max Biaggi, Australian racer Garry McCoy suffers injury after injury and American John Hopkins becomes an emerging star.
Former world champions Mick Doohan, Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Rainey, Kenny Roberts and Barry Sheene augment "Faster" with stories about the perils and thrills of motorcycle racing.
Actor Ewan McGregor narrates the movie, which runs for 103 minutes.
"Faster" was shown at the 2004 Slamdance Film Festival for new filmmakers in Park City, Utah.
