Defense leads Hubbard to victory
The Eagles won their opener 34-0 over Cleveland East.
HUBBARD -- Defense was a key factor as the Hubbard High School football team blanked Cleveland East 34-0 Friday in the Eagles' stadium.
Playing for the first time, Hubbard jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Tony Giancola scored on runs of 36-30 and 2 yards while Ben Lane tallied on runs of 5 and 6 yards to trigger the Hubbard offense.
Giancola gained 101 yards on eight carries and Lane picked up 45 on nine attempts.
The Eagles' defense limited Cleveland East (0-2) to 31 rushing and 56 passing yards.
LaBrae 34, Mathews 6
LEAVITTSBURG -- Quarterback Tod Rohan connected on 16 of 22 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns for LaBrae (2-0).
Eric Hart caught a 35-yard TD strike from Rohan to put the Vikings ahead to stay in the first quarter.
Kyle Rohan caught a 15-yard TD pass from Tod Rohan in the second quarter.
LaBrae picked up 99 yards rushing.
Mathews gained a total 210 yards.
Lakeview 26,Conneaut 20
CONNEAUT -- Matt Kohuth's 8-yard touchdown run helped the Bulldogs (2-0) jump out to a 20-0 lead. Kohuth rushed 21 times for 77 yards.
Kevin Albert completed seven of 11 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns -- Sean McBride (45 yards) and Trevor Matthews (30 yards). Albert also scored on a 2-yard run.
Conneaut is 0-2.
Jefferson 35, Champion 0
CHAMPION -- James Ashley scored on touchdown runs of 9 and 5 yards to lead Jefferson (2-0).
Ashley rushed for 59 yards on eight carries and completed nine of 11 passes for 102 yards. Alex Williams caught seven of them for 82 yards.
For the Golden Flashes (0-2), Chaz Kincaid rushed 10 times for 68 yards.
