VOLLEYBALL Brookfield High defeats Girard



Lordstown (2-0) beat winless South Range and Hubbard won its opener.
BROOKFIELD -- Morgan Bonekovich had 12 kills and 16 digs, while Rachel Pasquerilla contributed 16 points and two aces as the Brookfield High volleyball team defeated Girard 25-21, 26-24, 25-18 Thursday.
The Warriors improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Trumbull Athletic Conference.
For the Indians (3-2, 0-1), Erin Stevens collected 10 points, 28 assists and three aces. Chelsea Morrison had eight kills and two blocks for Girard.

LIBERTY -- Ashton Gierlach scored 17 points, Maddie D'Orio had 18 kills and Lindsey Higgins assisted on 27 plays for the Vikings (1-0, 1-0 TAC).
For the Leopards (2-2, 0-1), Ami Markowitz killed 15 balls and Emily Hall had 29 assists.
Lakeview 25-25-25, Newton Falls 15-17-17
NEWTON FALLS -- Lindsay Whetzel collected 12 points and 10 kills in the TAC match. The Bulldogs were opening their season.
For the Tigers (0-2, 0-1), Mindy Thomas scored 10 points.
Hubbard 25-25-25, Champion 16-3-9
HUBBARD -- Danielle Nock and Callie Oyler led the Eagles (1-0, 1-0 TAC), each with 12 kills. Corrie Gasser assisted on 17 balls for Hubbard.
For Champion (1-2, 0-1), Heather Pegg collected five kills, three digs and an ace.
Salem 25-25-25, Struthers 5-6-15
SALEM -- Jessica Potts scored 13 points with 10 aces and 21 assists for the Quakers (3-1, 2-0 Metro Athletic Conference). Sarah Hamilton had nine kills, four tips and an ace. Sarah Brobeck had six aces, three kills and two blocks.

NILES -- Jaime Kelly scored 13 points, with 13 kills, an ace, three assists, one block and a dig for the Tigers (5-2, 1-1 MAC). Brittany Kelly had eight points, two aces, six kills, 31 assists, one block and one save.
Alyssa Suckow led the Red Dragons (1-2, 0-2) with eight points, an ace and a block. Christy Mickel had six assists.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Dayna Daltorio had 12 digs, 14 hits, five kills and 11 points for the Cardinals. Jacci Wyman had three digs, nine hits, seven kills and seven points.

NORTH LIMA -- Alycia Israel scored 28 points, with two aces, 25 assists and three blocks for the Red Devils (2-0). Christa Israel and Samantha Kistler each had 14 points. Amanda Kistler had 13 kills.
Pam Miller led the Raiders (0-4) with four aces and 39 assists. Tara Chizmar added two aces and seven digs for South Range.

COLUMBIANA -- Emily Goerig led the Bears (1-1) with 10 digs. Samantha Miller had six assists and Malorie Valentine had five kills and five blocks.

CARROLLTON -- Dena New had 11 points, 22 assists, 24 passes, three digs and six saves for the Warriors (1-1, 1-1 Northeastern Buckeye Conference). Evelyn Woods had eight points, 13 kills, 11 blocks, 28 passes and two digs. Rachel Boyce served 14 points.
