HOWLAND -- A 22-year-old township man is being held in the county jail after being arrested on numerous charges.
Bradley K. Schuster, 22, of South Street Southeast, entered innocent pleas to charges of breaking and entering, safecracking, theft of drugs and resisting arrest Thursday in the courtroom of Judge Thomas Gysegem of Warren Municipal Court.
He is being held in the county jail on a $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court next week, officials said.
Police Chief Paul Monroe said Schuster was arrested around 3 a.m. Thursday after Patrol Officer Tim Hughes noticed lights on inside the office of Dr. Clive Sinoff on East Market Street.
"Officer Hughes knew it would be unusual for the lights to be on in the middle of the night at the doctor's office so he figured he'd check it out," Monroe said.
Hughes and Patrol Officer David Carr pulled into the back parking lot and saw a man looking out the door, reports state.
The officers saw the suspect standing near the door holding a large white safe, Monroe said.
Once the officers entered the office, they ordered Schuster to get on the ground. Schuster at first complied but then attempted to stand up. He was told again to the stay on the ground but he pushed Hughes, police said. The officers struggled with him before arresting him.
In the office
Officers searched the doctor's office and found that several computer screens were smashed and doors were torn apart.
Several packages of prescription medication were on the floor and countertops, the report stated.
Officers also noted they believe some items from the doctor's office may be inside the suspect's car.
The vehicle, which was locked, was parked in the lot behind the office. Officers said they saw a plastic bag sitting on the back seat containing what appeared to be boxes of prescription medication.
