SOCCER Emery's six goals spark Flashes
Canfield's unbeaten girls beat Hawken, 2-1.
CHAMPION -- Senior forward John Emery scored six goals to help lead the Champion High boys soccer team to a 6-3 win over Niles on Thursday.
Emery has nine goals in three games for the Golden Flashes (2-0-1), who led 3-2 at the break. Champion took more shots on goal, 29-12.
Jacob Shimley, T.J. Christie and Justin Shelton each scored a goal for Niles.
Fitch 2, Perry 0
MASSILLON -- Joe Sebaugh scored a goal midway through the second half on an assist by Anthony Colaluca and came right back a minute later to score another goal for the Falcons (1-2-1, 1-0 Federal League).
Fitch had an 11-4 advantage on shots on goal. Brent Sopko had two saves for Fitch.
Warren JFK 4, Columbiana 1
COLUMBIANA -- Kyle Schimley and Justin Spaneler each had two goals for the Eagles (2-1-1). Jeff Jenkins had three assists.
Warren JFK had 28 shots on goal and Columbiana had eight.
Kyle Martin scored the only goal for the Clippers (3-3). Columbiana goalie Ryan Guy had 17 saves. JFK goalie Brian Wolnik had four saves.
United 6, Heartland Christian 1
HANOVERTON -- Brock Volio collected three goals and an assist for United (2-1).
Austin Dangler, Shawn Timmons and Chris Berkheimer each had a goal and Ashley Rickard and Sarah Martin each had an assist.
Mike Barborak scored off a pass from Blake Kozma for Heartland Christian.
Lordstown 2, Maplewood 0
MAPLEWOOD -- Drew Minton and Nate Rech each scored a goal for the Red Devils (2-1). Kyle Owen had an assist. Rockets (0-2) goalkeepers Brice Rathburn had five saves and Gavin Switzer had four. Red Devils goalie Brandon Wickline had six saves.
Poland 11, Ursuline 0
STRUTHERS -- Dain Malaniak and Stephen Gavolas scored three goals apiece and Chris Juchno added two for Poland.
The Bulldogs (2-0-1) also got a goal each from Michael Hallock, P. J. Booth and Isaac Yurco.
Poland had 24 shots on goal, while its defense didn't allow the Irish to get a shot off on goal.

CANFIELD -- With 33 seconds remaining in the game, Nikki Sorice took a pass from Audra Frimpong and scored the winner from just inside the box as Canfield beat Hawken 2-1.
The Hawks (2-1) got a goal by Natalie Stever with the game about 10 minutes old, but the Cardinals (2-0) tied it 1-1 at the half on a goal by Tia Norris. Norris connected on a corner kick by Liz Vernal. Canfield out-shot the Hawks, 22-12.
Mooney 6, Hubbard 0
HUBBARD -- Cardinal Mooney earned its third victory of the season with a win over Hubbard (0-2).
The Cardinals (3-0-1) opened a 3-0 lead before halftime on two goals from Kelli Willis and one from Marisa Simon.
The Cardinals extended their advantage in the second half with two goals from Simon and one from Willis. Kelly Burke, Vickie Dreiling, Amanda Stanavich and Nomiki Frangopoulos had one assist apiece.
Natalie Humphreys and Veronica Skowron combined for six saves in the win, while Hubbard goalkeepers Hope Wright, Stephanie Zubyk and Tina Takash all combined to make 14 saves for the Eagles.
North Canton 3, Boardman 1
NORTH CANTON -- On Wednesday, the Spartans (1-3, 0-1 Federal League) scored their only goal at 15:54 of the second half on a penalty kick by Katie Stoll.
Boardman was out-shot 23-7. Lani Vlad had 11 saves, including one on a penalty kick, for the Spartans.
