CANFIELD -- A rock concert featuring popular Christian artists will also serve as a rally for the 15th annual See You at the Pole prayer day.
TeenFusion Ministries will hold the rally Sept. 11 at Old North Church in Canfield. The event will feature Christian rap artist John Reuben, rock band Falling Up, which has had two songs at No. 1 on the Christian rock chart, and alternative rock artist Deron 5L.
The event will also include a tailgate party between shows. Pizza will be sold, and guests are encouraged to bring their own food and nonalcoholic beverages.
The rally is in support of the 15th annual See You at the Pole prayer day, a grass-roots student-initiated and student-led movement that began in Texas in 1990, bringing students to their school flagpoles to pray for their leaders, schools and families. SYATP takes place on the third Wednesday of every September, falling Sept. 15 this year.
In 2003, more than 2 million teenagers met for SYATP in all 50 states, and students from several other countries also participated. Information for planning and promoting a SYATP is available at www.syatp.com
Helping youth pastors
TeenFusion Ministries is a nonprofit, interdenominational youth ministry that was created to provide help for youth pastors from all churches who are interested in growing their youth groups, said TeenFusion co-founder Janyse Cain of Campbell.
"The idea is to create unity with youth pastors and to provide teenagers with something to do," said Cain. "Part of the reason [we] do this is the impact a positive youth group can have on kids. I didn't have a youth group growing up and I wish I had -- its impact might have changed things for me. ... [We] want to put hope back in Youngstown, to make a better future for teenagers here."
Cain said that this is the first concert presented by TeenFusion and that they need the support of area churches and youth groups to continue.
The group is also accepting community sponsors. The sponsors will be listed on the TeenFusion Web site and on a banner at all concerts.
TeenFusion's next event will be a concert featuring Christian artists Sanctus Real and Barlow Girl in January or February, Cain said.
Cost is $15, and tickets are available at Heaven on Earth Christian Bookstore, 8381 Market St., Boardman; online at www.teenfusion.net or by calling (330) 518-5503.
