"Patch Adams" co-star Monica Potter is joining the cast of "Boston Legal," ABC's Sunday night evolution of "The Practice."
Potter will play Lori Colson, a junior partner at the firm of Crane, Poole & amp; Schmidt. Although she's a successful attorney and the firm's younger women look up to her, she sometimes doubts her calling and takes occasional pro bono assignments. She also forges some sort of kinship with James Spader's Alan Shore.
Potter joins Spader, William Shatner, Lake Bell, Rhona Mitra and Mark Valley as cast regulars on the drama from David E. Kelly, Bill D'Elia, Scott Kaufer and Jeff Rake.
The "Boston Legal" job could let Potter reunite with her "Head Over Heels" co-star Freddie Prinze Jr., as the "Wing Commander" thespian has signed on for at least two episodes this fall.
On the small screen
For Potter, the best things about her new gig is that it guarantees her a place on the small screen in the fall. During the 2003 development season, the actress appeared in the CBS comedy "The Lunchbox Chronicles," which failed to get picked up. Early this year she was cast opposite Chris O'Donnell and Jay Harrington in the unsuccessful comedy pilot "The Amazing Westermans," also at CBS.
In addition to her uncanny resemblance to Julia Roberts and features like "Along Came a Spider" and "Without Limits," Potter's more recent credits include the telefilm "Reversible Errors." She can next be seen in the thriller "Saw."
