BOSTON -- Kevin Millar homered and drove in four runs, and Boston opened a 3 1/2-game lead over Anaheim in the wild card race. It was Boston's eighth straight win, second in a row over the Angels and 14th in its last 15 games. The Red Sox have scored at least 10 runs five times in their last 12. Anaheim is 1-3 after winning nine consecutive games. Johnny Damon had four of Boston's 16 hits, and Mark Bellhorn, David Ortiz and Orlando Cabrera drove in two runs each. Anaheim starter Aaron Sele (8-2) allowed seven runs and 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Terry Tiffee hit a go-ahead two-run double in his major league debut to cap an eighth-inning rally and help Minnesota deal Texas its third straight loss. Shannon Stewart homered for Minnesota and Jesse Crain (1-0) pitched two perfect innings for his first major league win. Joe Nathan pitched the ninth for his 36th save. Michael Young and Mark Teixeira each had two hits for Texas.
White Sox 5, Athletics 4
CHICAGO -- Pinch-hitter Ross Gload came through with an RBI single in the ninth inning to help Chicago end Oakland's eight-game winning streak. Scott Hatteberg and Mark McLemore each had three hits for the A's. Oakland starter Barry Zito pitched 6 2-3 innings, giving up four runs and seven hits. He struck out six and walked one.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Javy Lopez drove in four runs, Daniel Cabrera became the first rookie to win 10 games this season, and Baltimore held Tampa Bay to two hits. Cabrera (10-7) sent Tampa Bay to its fifth straight loss. He allowed two hits, six walks and struck out three in 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Todd Williams and John Parrish completed the two-hitter for the Orioles. Rocco Baldelli returned from the 15-day disabled list and was Tampa Bay's designated hitter. He became the 13th active player to reach 300 hits before turning 23 with a first-inning double.
Blue Jays 4, Mariners 2
TORONTO -- Frank Menechino hit a tie-breaking homer in the seventh inning, and David Bush pitched seven innings for Toronto. Ichiro Suzuki, chasing George Sisler's major league record for hits in a season, went 2-for-3 and has 214 hits. He has 30 games remaining to break Sisler's mark of 257 hits set in 1920 with the St. Louis Browns.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Rookie Zack Greinke pitched three-hit ball for seven innings in Kansas City's victory over Detroit. Abraham Nunez, another rookie, singled home Joe Randa in the fourth with the Royals' only run off Mike Maroth (10-10), handing the Tigers their sixth loss in seven games.

Cubs 2, Expos 1
MONTREAL -- Nomar Garciaparra scored the go-ahead run on Claudio Vargas' wild pitch in the 11th inning and Mark Grudzielanek added an RBI single. Kerry Wood rebounded from his worst outing of the season, striking out 11 while scattering five hits in eight innings for the Cubs. Expos starter Tony Armas Jr. allowed four hits in six scoreless innings.
Astros 9, Reds 3
CINCINNATI -- Lance Berkman hit a tie-breaking homer in the fifth inning, Jeff Kent capped a five-run seventh with a grand slam and Houston extended its season-best winning streak to six. Roy Oswalt (16-9) improved to 10-0 in 14 career games against Cincinnati.
Braves 7, Phillies 2
PHILADELPHIA -- Andruw Jones and Chipper Jones each hit a solo homer, and Jaret Wright pitched six innings to lead Atlanta. Wright (14-6) won his third straight start and improved to 12-1 since May 27. He walked none, struck out five and improved to 3-0 this year against the Phillies. Chipper Jones hit his 26th homer and added a two-run double.
Cardinals 4, Padres 2
ST. LOUIS -- Chris Carpenter pitched seven innings of six-hit ball, and Albert Pujols homered for the third straight game to help the Cardinals with their fifth straight. Larry Walker and Scott Rolen hit home runs in the first inning and Reggie Sanders had a pair of doubles for the NL Central leaders, who have won 10 of 12 overall.
Marlins 5, Mets 4
NEW YORK -- Paul Lo Duca hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the sixth inning, Mike Lowell homered and the Marlins won their sixth straight game. Ismael Valdez (12-7) won his third game in five starts since the Marlins acquired him from San Diego. Armando Benitez pitched a perfect ninth for his NL-leading 40th save.
Diamondbacks 3, Dodgers 1
PHOENIX -- Shea Hillenbrand hit a two-run double and Brandon Webb pitched six strong innings to lead Arizona. Greg Aquino got his 10th save. Hideo Nomo (3-11), activated from the disabled list before the game, allowed three runs, four hits and struck out seven in six innings. But he walked five in his eighth straight loss.
Rockies 4, Giants 1
SAN FRANCISCO -- Jamey Wright pitched seven innings of four-hit ball and Colorado ended an eight-game losing streak. Clint Barmes had two hits, drove in a run and scored twice. Barry Bonds walked three times and had just one official at-bat, when he flied out in the seventh.
