If you believe the American Film Institute, which ranks "Some Like It Hot" and "Tootsie" as the funniest movies ever, there's nothing funnier than men pretending to be women.
TBS will test that theory this fall, when it debuts an unscripted series called "He's a Lady." The show, from the folks who produced "Boy Meets Boy," will take 11 men and turn them into women for a while so they can see how the other 51 percent live.
To do that, the competitors will undergo a "complete feminine makeover" and live together in an abode known as "The Doll House," which TBS describes as "a beautifully decorated dwelling designed to help them get in touch with their feminine sides." A $250,000 prize at the end of the game is presumably what keeps the guys involved.
Reeled 'em in
The network and producer Evolution Film & amp; Tape used a bit of subterfuge to get guys to apply for the show. When TBS announced the then-untitled show in May, it said it was looking "to put real men to the ultimate test," implying but never stating that the show would be some sort of Decathlon of Studliness.
Instead, "He's a Lady" will involve guys getting used to wearing a bra, heading out among actual women to see if they can mingle without being found out and returning home to try to fool their families and friends.
The show will culminate in a beauty pageant, where the competitors will be asked "What, as a lady, have you learned about being a man?" Judges Morgan Fairchild, Debbie Matenopoulos and John Salley will then choose a winner.
"He's a Lady" is in production and scheduled to premiere Oct. 12.
